Meet The Milliner Behind The Hats

From her Surrey studio, Sarah Ross creates distinctive hats and headpieces for weddings, race days and special occasions, with more than 300 hats available to hire alongside her bespoke commissions.

Trained at Kensington & Chelsea College with milliner Jo Miller, Sarah combines traditional millinery techniques with an artistic eye for colour, shape and detail. In 2018, she was shortlisted for the Design Award of The Worshipful Company of Feltmakers in London.

From Artist To Milliner

Before retraining as a milliner, I had a long and varied career as an Occupational Therapist, specialising in sculpting splints for hand injuries. It was very hands-on work, and many of the sculptural techniques I developed then now find their way into my millinery.

I’ve always been creative. I’m also a keen artist, and that love of colour, shape and detail is a huge part of the way I approach every hat I make.

When I’m not in the studio, life is usually centred around my two sons – and, when I get the chance, a round of golf.
